I just noticed that Shelley Osterloh's bio no longer appears on the KSL website. Does anyone know if she is still with the station? She has been at KSL longer than about anyone with the exception of Dick Nourse. Anyone have any info?

i was told her contract was not renewed.Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by henry on May 31, 2007, 1:30pm
I feel bad. She's been there that long and I can't put a face to the name.
The only reason I even recognize the name is because Pat Gray (former Bee jock) did a parody of "Wear Sunscreen" where he gave advice to the Class of 1999.....and I remember one of the things he said was "Don't mess with your hair too much, or you'll look like Shelly Osterloh."Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by abc4beaverdam on May 31, 2007, 5:01pm
Does KSL still air "Our Town"? It used to come on just after the Today show and after the 12pm newscast. She used to host that short, 3-minute affair show... but I didn't think KSL would get rid of her, she's part of the furniture!Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by peck801 on Jun 1, 2007, 9:21am
I called the station and asked to speak with her, the receptionist said she no longer was with the company. I asked if she retired and the receptionist said, "Yes."
According to her bio, she started at KSL in 1975. I think it's a shame that someone can be an on air personality at a station for over 30 years and retire (or be let go) without even a mention at the end of a newscast. I also feel one of the local papers could have done a small write up about it.Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by abc4beaverdam on Jun 1, 2007, 4:10pm
Yeah, you would think KSL or the Deseret Morning News would give a mention of her retirement/leaving. But if there is anybody at KSL that should leave, it ought to be Nadine Wimmer! I can't stand watching her and have her taking..breaths..and talk way-to-fast-on-air-when-reporting a..story! In all her interviews, she claims she takes those tapes and has them analyzed... why don't Bruce or Dick tell her to read the news slower, and not take so many breathers. But whatever Shelley's situation is, I hope we hear something from her soon!Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by stitch on Jun 2, 2007, 10:35pm
Henry,
Shelley is the blond lady that reports on lifestyle and sporting events. She gets right in there for the story. If she's reporting on a sporting event, she will most likely be participating by being on skates, skis, olympic bobsled, or whatever!
Shelley is a great physical reporter, who doesn't seem too scared to try anything! She recently dressed up as a lady vampire for the Rocky Point Haunted House closing and did a story on that. When they put those fake contacts in her eyes, you could see that those must have bothered her. She said they did bother her eyes, but that is he only thing that has ever bothered her in all her great stories. She will be greatly missed! She is irreplaceable!!!Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by grimbasement on Jun 7, 2007, 3:13pm
Things such as this seems to be the TV business and doesn't seem to matter what market. When female anchors or reporters age they are quietly sent out to pasture, while dinosaurs like Dick Nourse stay around FOREVER.
Aging Female = old bag Aging Male = distinguished.
I'm sure there are exceptions but are there any female geezers like Nourse doing the nightly news anywhere?

Nightly news I can't think of, but Barbara Walters is 78 and still going strong. Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by idacat on Jun 22, 2007, 9:30am
I don't know what KSL is thinking !!
When I returned to the KSL viewing area in 2004 after a 15 year absence, her presence on KSL made me feel like I was coming home. At that time she was still not only reporting but doing some anchoring as in the (far) past and she had pretty literally not changed in my fifteen year absence, unlike the Planet of the Apes simian looking Carole Mikita who had clearly "had work" in my absence.
This coupled with the demotion of the very capable Dina Freedman in favor of grating soprano voiced Kevin Eubanks and lucky break Dan Pope makes me wonder about where KSL fits into the feminist paradigm of women in television.
Time was they were groundbreakers....with female anchor Shelley Thomas' (and Osterloh's)on air pregnancies. With Shelley Thomas as anchor for that matter, in a market as conservative as KSL's.Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by stitch on Jun 23, 2007, 1:02am
Sadly, I have to agree with Grim. I think the reason Barbara Walters has lasted so long is because she is so respected and is like the Oprah of newswomen. But, have you noticed, BW doesn't do the news stories anymore. She hasn't for years.
She does the BW Special and has created her own niche with that as well as the View. I love Barbara. I think she is fantastic! I HATE the View and always have! I think the View makes women look like bubble-headed chatty Cathy's. No offense to those with the name Cathy.. It just rhymes with chatty.
When the "View" first came out,I expected a more intelligent show. I do like when BW makes an appearance on the view, because she is the intelligence there.Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by stitch on Jul 11, 2007, 4:16am
Carol Mikita is beautiful and one of the truly nicest women I know. I count her as friend.. She is just wonderful. She has never had work done to my knowledge and she doesn't need it either. Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by voicegirl on Jul 12, 2007, 5:47pm
BVRDAMR--about Nadine Wimmer, you are so right on! I LOL when I watch (rarely) while simultaneously straining to hear exactly what she says. And, it is as if someone is at the control board bringing the mic slider up and down and up and down as she spits out her words loudly and then rapid-fire and then almost nervously. Blech. Nice gal, though. I think.Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by rugbyfan on Jul 28, 2007, 11:55am

So does anyone know the latest on her where-abouts? She will be missed greatly...Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by stitch on Aug 14, 2007, 10:37pm
I think Shelley is co-hosting a weekend morning show on KSL or maybe PBS! I was in the hospital the other day and saw an advertisement for the show while waiting for the doctor... She looks really great! I'm sorry I didn't hear the title of the new show!Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by grimbasement on Aug 15, 2007, 11:43am

Yeah, I always get KSL and PBS mixed up too.... Re: Shelley Osterloh Post by idacat on Sept 9, 2007, 11:23am
Shelley filled in for Brooke Walker, the female half of the hosting team of Studio Five, KSL's weekday morning show, for a week or so in mid August.
This at least tells me her parting from KSL was amicable despite it's rather swift and quiet nature.
