So the next news program to come to the airwaves is Eyewitness News at 4, starting in September.
A good decision by KSL to bring us news? Or a cheap attempt to compete with KUTV's 2nd place hold on the hour, since no one can match Oprah's numbers?
Vote and respond!

I think it's a good move for at least one reason. Hopefully having Samantha Hayes move to weekdays means we get Kim Johnson permanently on the weekends. Kim is the best female anchor that KSL has. Nothing against the other women, I just think Kim is tops.

I don't know about you, but I think 4pm is too early for news. 4:30 might be cutting it, but I think it's a good way to get into the 5 o'clock news hour. Does anyone know who the anchors are? Maybe that's why KSL is looking for another Meteorologist? I was looking on Bonneville's online job listing and KSL is looking for another weather-person. PS, I am in no-way affiliated with any news station or news source. I am a fan of ABC4 because of Ruth Todd.

Big cities have news all day long practically. It's insane. Visit LA, Miami, or another HUGE market and you'll see it at 4 pm, probably at 9 am and 10 am (not just 11 am and noon) ... it's wild.
Regardless, I'm sure it will be an improvement over the Jane Pauley Show (which has been cancelled nationwide).

I'll place my vote under the new category "KSL is adding a 4PM newscast?" I guess that's close to "who cares".

I can't see much draw a 4:00. But I am a radio geek, I still think that TV is just radio with pictures. Everyone should turn off the TV at 4:00 pm and listen to the radio!

From the promos airing it looks like Jed Boal, Samantha Hayes, and Len Randolph are anchoring the 4:00 show.
I was also curious as to why KSL has posted a meteoroligist position. Is someone leaving that we are now aware of?

Now we just need to wait for Fox to have a 3:00 pm news cast so they can continue to push First on Fox....

I suppose having someone do a rotating newswheel (a la the old Headline News) on one of the digital channels is out, right?

Not really sure if this works or not.
KUTV is winning in every time slot except for 10 p.
Someone has to ask the question, is there really enough news in SLC to support this many newscasts?

My thoughts exactly. It's just a form of time shifting. While we're at it, how much actual news changes between the 5 or 6PM cast and the 10PM? Not a whole lot. There are different features on the 10PM will have the evening sports highlights, but what else changes?

Give it time. Someone is bound to put a ticker at the bottom of their programming within the next few years. And after that, don't forget about daily :30 cut-ins before each show begins, and the tedious promotion of news except during prime time.

If you're saying what I think you're saying, the networks used to do that during prime time on weeknights. Remember "CBS News Newsbreak" "NBC News Digest" and "ABCNews Brief"?
