Dina Freedman, the once meteorologist at KSL, has resurfaced in Salt Lake...this time at KUTV. I saw her this afternoon on 2News at Noon, as she was doing a teaser...her hair has gotten longer and she still has that nasal sound...
Someone had put on this board that she was spending her summer in a national park and then going to Iraq to build bombshelters? I wonder if she had done that and missed the Salt Lake Valley..it has that effect on people..haha

I'm happy she is back. It is good for the stations here in the SLC area to have a staff from around the US or world for that matter. People have commented that her voice is "nasally" I don't think so. For a voice that is like fingernails on a chock board one only needs to listen Kevin Eubank on KSL. Like a 12 year old boy with a voice that is changing. My 2 cents

I can't remember who said it, but somebody posted a while back that Kevin Eubank is now a fill-in voice over artist for the Smurfs! Poor guy! Maybe anabolic steroids aren't such a bad thing after all! LOL In other markets where the predominant religion isn't so present, I've actually worked in TV where those with voices like that are encouraged to smoke to get a deeper, more resonant tone. I don't know if that's the right answer, but I did find it amusing!

Go figure, the nasally voice doesn't seem as bad any more. But the thing that really annoys me is the way she constantly keeps her eyebrows raised. I swear she has like a 6 inch range as to where she can put her eyebrows. Another thing I've noticed is her wardrobe is considerably "more Utahn" now. I wonder if KUTV will have to field all the hate mail and phone calls like the KSL demo apparently lobbed her way?

well and another thing i've noticed in just the last couple of days is she always walks up to the camera, just like Grant Weyman... what is it with being Right In There!? And she's also in the way of some of the cities and their temperatures...maybe she just wanted to get back in front of the camera haha?

From what I've heard, she's only temping over there and probably isn't staying long term. No word on whether KUTV has gotten any hate mail about her, but who cares anyway. It's not like people who waste their lives calling into a television station at 6AM to complain about the talent are the best to judge.

Dina has been on the air locally at channel 2 for several weeks now, and is a welcomed addition to the professionally starved local market...she has earned respected credentials with the American Meteorological Society...it's so refreshing to see a true professional on the air in slc...hopefully she will be on kutv full-time...

KUTV has added another notch in the worst weather team belt! Well, at least Sterling makes the weekends good on channel 2.The Steadman still thinks everyone is retarded. Last week he was getting all hot and bothered about a hurricane in the Atlantic and said "here's the hurricane and here's the United States." Yes Roland we do know our general geography. He also like to point out where Utah is located on the national map.

Oh, I can't resist if we're Talkin' Weather on Ch 2.
John, the midget surfer dude was the worst. Happily, he's gone. Then, as soon as the wet, cold spring ended, Debbie Worthen starts complaining and trying to make a news story out of the fact that it's hot in the summer in Utah. News Flash, Debbie: It gets hot here in the summer! Get over yourself. It's not a weather emergency.
Finally, Lindsey Storrs seems to be very nice. Her use of the term "piece of energy" to describe approaching weather fronts is embarassing. And I really don't want to look at her swollen belly button poking out of her skin-tight top while she's pregnant. Not everyone celebrates childbirth by making everyone else acutely aware of their condition.
Sterling is a joke. Has been for years. He was awful to watch when he was allowed on the set during the week as he was cranky and combative with the other anchors. It was like having your angry, older brother hanging out while your friends are visiting. Just a really unlikeable guy to watch and listen to.

Interesting, I've always thought Sterling was a professional and I've never seen him as "cranky" or "combative". He's one of the few weather guys that seems to REALLY enjoy the weather (read excited/giddy. The elder Eubank was like this too, Kevin not so much). Agreed on Worthen traffic "babe" cum weather person, there's no mistaking her for a professional meteorologist that's for sure. As far as knowing the weather and entertainment value Sterling is the best in the market IMO.
I like Lindsey. Once she got the whole pasty white/iron deficiency thing taken care of after her last pregnancy (she looked like she was going to keel over right on the set the last time she was about to drop. I could just imagine her throwing up off camera before and after each weather cast). I don't see a problem calling systems "pieces of energy".
So billie, who in your infinite wisdom as a talent judge is the best weather person in SLC??

Talent judge? Naw. I just know what I like and what I tune out.
And since we're talking about viewer preferences, I don't need to have either infinite wisdom or be a judge of talent.
I'll leave the expert status to you.
And since you have no idea what I know or don't know, I'll give you a hint and say that I worked for KSTU in the mid-80's, KSL til the early 90's and KUTV after that for a number of years.
Then, I got a life and left the business.
Jody Saelin was the first person I heard use the term "piece of energy" to describe an approaching weather system. No one knew what the hell she meant by that way back. It's not a meteorlogically accepted term.
Sterling has been passed over for the prime time slots year after year. He's good and not nearly as offensive, live on camera, as he was even 10 years ago, when he would throw mini-tantrums because someone interupted him on cam or scowl at the desk people if they didn't say the correct thing in introducing him. Jay Welch Chorale friction may have been driving his moods, don't know.
I don't think I can recommend any one particular weatherperson in this market right now. The ones who are least offensive are just hollow suits and the ones who are offensive aren't up to par, like college kids doing the news. Debbie Worthen is like a little barking puppy. She can barely control herself sitting at the desk. I'll bet there;'s a little yellow puddle where she nstands each morning.
Marty what's her name on Channel 4 is so unwatchable. She believes, apparently, that if she portrays a kind of old-school glamour and can mange to make it all about herslef, it's a good thing. She's reading the weather, basically. I don't watch her and think to myself,"Hmmmm. Here's an older, more professional person giving me the weathernews I need. I watch her and think,"Wow! She's behaving like a character in a Broadway musical. "
If I had to choose or recemmend, I guess for the mornings I would go with Grant Wayman. He's kind of a Tom Hanks character, cool, collected, doesn't pretend that the sky is falling because it's just raining, etc. I could have lunch with Grant Wayman and make a new friend.
But, you see, Live Five Vipr killed my attention for KSL's weather. It was as stupid, awkward branding attempt. Probably had a contractual commitment with the manufacturer to logo-brand it on every weather screen they broadcast. "Let's see what Live Five Vipr says!"
Hey, guys, your family called and said the house is on fire."Better check with Live Five Vipr!" Hey, guys, your family called and said they are leaving you...Let's see what Live Five Vipr has to say!"
You got the feeling for awhile that Live Five Vipr was the Hard Drive in TRON.
So, they can take their big piece of energy and their "How To Dress Today" nonsense and the gasping and rolling eyes because we're in a mountain desert and it gets hot here and try to give a reasonably responsible take on the weather. If all else fails, just rip-and-read the damn Nat'l weather info they all subscribe to and stop trying to sensationalize a normal day.

She graduated from Lyndon State, in Vermont, in 2001. I think she's single. She's Jewish, so that might be an issue (if you're in the marryin' mood). She's definitely cute.
