with the merger of xm sirius I thought I would mention an alternative. Slacker personal radio follows the model set up by pandora. Yet they have over two million songs. I have just been amazed at the depth of their play lists on the dj stations. And the ability to create a custom station is so far ahead of others. The sound quality is decent too. I should mention that they sell a wi-fi portable player/mp3 player that allows you to take all this goodness on the go.
Now I don't work for the company. Just a fan. Been listening to various stations for a good two months now. Sometimes I just let it run overnight and see what pops up. The software player lists everything they play while on the current station. Plus you can save songs you like to play them later. Of course they don't have licensing to save a lot of songs yet.
I have listened to sirius as well and imho slacker just blows it away
Here is one of the reasons I am impressed. As for something obscure. I am a huge scott walker fan. Created a station that had his music among others. I was amazed that slacker was playing stuff from "Climate From Hunter" from 1984. I also really like Shriekback. Slacker was playing stuff from "Big Night Music" a hard as all get out album to find these days (been out of print for years).
