So, is anybody else pumped about the return of 101.1 WCBS in New York?
I've never liked oldies, but they seem to have a great blend, and great jocks right from the get-go.
Props to CBS!

Jack Fm was a fad and if it did'nt make it in the big Apple it will fail everywhere else. But My99.5 which is the same idea for some reason I liked but it focused more on 80's modern and today's modern

The Jack in NYC (and to a great extent the Jack here) is not what was actually developed by the people who invented it. The NYC Jack was described as a bad 80's rock station. What Jack is supposed to be is music across all formats from all decades. Most of the Jack stations are NOT doing that. Not much of a wonder why they're falling like dominoes.

Interestingly, before the original 'jack.fm' website went online which is where the format actually came from and hit big in Canada first, Utah may have had the scoop on all of it.
KLGL is the one that did it first and is still doing it. They just simply are not calling themselves an adult hits format, and most radio sites refer to them as hot-AC. And to top that off, they do everything right too. I've never heard the same song on the same day there.
They are on 98.3 in Utah County. 93.7 everywhere else south of Utah County and have 14 other translators. They are not online at all.

14 translators? Radio Locator only shows 2. Where are the others?

I also really like the song selection at KLGL. But their Utah County translator cannot be heard with any fidelity north of Orem, so I usually do not hear more than a few minutes a day of their programming, so it is really easy for me to not hear them play a particular song too often.

Getting back to the thread, the return of WCBS is one of the best moves I've seen in radio in a long time. CBS didn't even back away from being criticized on the air and, by extension admitted they were fixing a mistake. WCBS was one of the best Oldies stations and I expect it will return to that status. Even though the format has been slightly tweaked (and Oldies accross the country are going to need to make similar adjusments, if they haven't already...KONO in San Antonio has and they also do relatively well.). Props to CBS on this one. Too bad they can't fix the Chicago mistake as ABC wisely filled the oldies gap there, blocking, I believe, a return for WJMK. Not all Jack stations are failures at this point. Jack in El AAAAAAAaayyy seems to be holding its own. (Granted, in that market it replaced a clssic hits and not an oldies station. Had CBS blown up K-Earth, there would be no forgiveness....)
