Here's something I just stumbled on. It could be useful. gva1.utah.gov/elections/polling.aspxIt will tell you what precinct you're in, where your polling place is and who your current elected ****roaches are. I was actually poking around because I saw a sign for Senator Hatch today. It's the first one I've seen, and I didn't even know he was up for re-election. It doesn't matter though. I don't think anyone up against him has a chance. I remember hearing that Pete Ashdown (of Xmission fame) was running for something, but I didn't realize he was after the big gun. Apparently the big cyber campaign he wanted to run didn't reach this guy who spends 4-6 hours a day online. There's a bigger picture here. It would be nice to have a sample ballot so I can know who I need to do research on so I can figure out who to vote for. One has been decided for me due to the blizzard of promotional messages that have been stuck in my mailbox over the last month+. I won't name the guilty party, but having to stare at that much junk mail from one candidate has convinced me to vote for the OTHER candidate on that factor alone. Anyone that desperate to get my attention makes me really nervous.

Just one candidate did that to you? The front porch has been littered repetitively. My trash runneth over. Despite the above annoyances and the recorded and live messages, voting is important. Please everyone vote. The process is fundamental.

New update. Got my first hand delivered steaming pile of dung today. It came from Ashdown. This is to spite very clear No Soliciting signage. I wish I had caught the {BLEEP} who left it. I could have had him/her arrested for trespassing on top of that. Private property is private property. Apparently the minions of Ashdown figure they're above the law. Ashdown thinks he's special too, as evidenced by the Xmission vs. SPEWS brouhaha from a few years ago. (No, those of us who care still haven't forgotten THAT one Petey.)
The Trib has Hatch ahead by 30 points in the latest poll. I think I'm going to enjoy seeing Ashdown go down in flames, even though I do agree with him that the comments by Hatch about causing damage to computer software pirates was incredibly stupid.

I hesitate to post this, but I'm going to stick my neck out and go ahead. I was involved in one of the many early ISP's which tried to spread the internet to the masses during the middle 90's. Xmission was in there at the same time, and was also providing some local network services to Electric Lightwave (one of the area's major bandwidth provider).
Without slandering Ashdown, I will just say that Electric Lightwave ended up suing Xmission for over half a million dollars, and many of the would-be competitors suffered because of Pete's behavior.
I myself, wouldn't vote for Ashdown for dog catcher. And will also be in the anti-Ashdown camp when he loses to Hatch in a huge lop-sided election.

Numbers as of now are preliminary, but statewide Hatch is kicking Ashdown's butt. The surprising numbers are from Salt Lake County where it's actually pretty close with Hatch leading 52% to 48%. Overall he's leading 63% to 30%, so I don't see a danger here.
The race involving my previously mentioned pathological mailer, the PM is losing by a considerable margin. Thank goodness.

What was the complaint with xmission and SPEWS. I think it's abundantly obvious that SPEWS hasn't worked but what was the background of your complaint?

About an hour ago, Michael, on Nightside, announced the Democrats have taken the Senate! YES!!!!
Today, Rumsfeld resigned and IMO, Bush knew the Dems had also taken the Senate and Rumsfeld resigned before the Senate announcement was made. IMO, President B is now trying to save his own rep. He knows that he'll probably go down in the history books as the worst president in history and he probably doesn't want that rap.
I don't think, in the history of our country, have we EVER had so many cabinet members leave voluntarily or resign...not to mention, all the crap with Foley and scandal with congressmen that we have had during this administration.
I really felt there was something wrong back when Colin Powell left. Alot we the people don't know about...
IMO, and I welcome criticism for this one, I think Conde needs to go too.. She is loyal and that's a great virtue... It's absolutely FANTASTIC and admirable that she is a minority woman in high places. I am also a woman. She does her job. I can see her being much more influential than she is under Bush, though. I feel that either she is afraid to be more influential, Bush won't listen to her and will force her out, or she doesn't have that skill set in her...
I can't wait until 2008 when Bush is out of office.

stich,
agreed. Still, Utah wants to stay the course and wants to support the status quo corruption. I've found in entertaining to see how dubya and others were full steam ahead don't confuse us with the facts have realized the gravy train is screeching to a halt. Who would have thought the dems would be the party of fiscal responsibility? Bottom line the past 6 years have been bad for America and the middle class. I just hope we can have good moderate governance and not the antithesis of the right wing loony evangelical "dictatorship" of the past 6 years. I have always maintained that a balance of ideals from both parties leads to th best policy. Too bad thats not the case in Utah.

I agree that he will go down in the books as one of the worse, but not the worst. He'll be in line behind presidents such as Nixon, Buchannan, and Harding.

Its just the cool thing to do to hate Bush... put all the blame on him. Well, the Dems have their chance and I am excited to see whether they will put their money where their mouth is.
Lets not forget that with the expansion of the media, internet and etc... this president has had more heat than anyother. He has stood his ground and that should be commended. Remember, the internet (as used by the majority of the public) is only about 10 years old. Pres Bush has been in there for 6 years and we all saw what happened Clintons last 4 years. No matter who is in there, the media will make them look bad. That is a big reason why the world hates America, because of what they see on the internet.
Now, is it just the internet that is the cause?? No, politicians are corrupt no matter who they are. They may have started their political careers for the right reasons, but who has been flawless in office?? Ever?? Even George Washington (oh no, did I just bring up a folk hero?) had his problems, affairs, etc... and Abe Lincoln was hated by many many many people, but he is very popular today. 60% of America hates George W, but he has not let that affect him, he is tuff as nails. So in the next 10 years, he may go down as one of the worst, but in the long run, will he be seen as worse than Hoover? (Amanuensis, you forgot Hoover!) I don't think so!
But, I will stop now and let you have your fun since hating Bush is the 'cool' thing to do.

BigBopper, you got me thinkin'... What would any of us have done if we were a new president and 9-11 happened?
President Bush's decision making abilities were a controversy from the get-go though and then BAM 9-11...
When Clinton left office, we had a zero deficet. That is an amazing feat for him and his legacy! I wish he could run again because his influence and experience with that would help us tremendously right now.
Whomever wins the election in 2008 will have big problems to face, unless Bush can get some ends pulled together and resolved before he leaves.
Every President has his troubles to conquer and his or her own time, that is unlike any other..because life is unfair and messy, but the last six years have been brutle! Even without the disasters that mother nature has laid upon us...and the man-made disaster we will never forget.

Thanks Big Bopper! Understand it is not so much George as a personal bias against male cheerleaders.

Stitch, we did not have ZERO deficit when Clinton left office. What we had were some wild****projections that said the government might get out of debt someday if you accepted all the assumptions in the fine print at the bottom.
You should go back and be a better student of history. Read what the opposing party was saying about Lincoln during the Civil War. No president in history has made decisions without being roundly hated by his detractors.
I am not saying Bush has been perfect, and certainly we all agree that he is not the communicator that Reagan was. But this was no landslide defeat for republicans, or the White House. It is common for any party in power to lose that power after a period of time.
Actually gaining control of the House and Senate may prove a bad thing going into 2008. The gridlock and lack of ability to move forward the democratic adgenda (The democrats control by the narrowest of margins) could back-fire against them in 2008.
I would urge you to spend a little more time with your history and temper you youthful enthusiasm with a strong dose of pragmatic reality.
