Speaking of air quality. Has anyone else noticed that we have all this crappy air with the ozone and pollen problems in the summertime. We have no-smoking laws, and no burn days. We have limit your driving days too. But it seems like we are having a fireworks display somewhere around the valley every single weekend..even when the air outside is not good.
There is a fireworks display tomorrow night in town. I forgot where....
What's that about? Fireworks are great! But we have them often and it doesn't help in our fight for cleaner air. The thing I looked forward to on the 4th and 24th of July is the fireworks, because we didn't see them every weekend. Now we do! I struggle to breathe after the fireworks are done. I'm sort of shocked that they do fireworks for First Night in all that inversion, but I guess the show must go on ...
Someone pass some legislation, please!

Let's shoot off a rocket to honor Tuesday. Fireworks should be special not mundane. Well Gov. Hansen stepped it up! www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=1244181Kudos good Sir!

I'm curious why you keep trying to change the Governor's name. Is this some inside joke we aren't getting?

Thanks for the link, Dolt! That's awesome news! Yesterday was Armed Forces Day, hence the fireworks at Murray Park. I'm not trying to spoil anyone's fun at all but fireworks do happen every weekend. It's ok to celebrate with them once in a while, but it's best not to use fireworks like we have used them over the past few years. That is to much!
I wonder if Porter's in Evanston gets most of our business? There is a billboard for a fireworks company called Phantom on about 10th east and Murray-Holladay Road, I bet we help there business too.
Hmm, I wonder if Porter's changed it's name to Phantom...

I'm curious why you keep trying to change the Governor's name. Is this some inside joke we aren't getting? Try it with a politician sometime CA. Name recognition is so important to them. Called Senator Hatch, "Senator Garn" one time as a conversation ended. He about tripped and fell as he walked away. You are welcome Stitch!

Does anyone else think it's ironic that as a nation and especially here in Utah and Wyoming that we celebrate our "independence" and "freedom" by exploiting slave labor in fireworks sweat shops from communist China? I have not bought fireworks since I moved here to Utah 12 years ago. At least in California I could justify the purchase because civic organizations and schools and other non-profits used fireworks sales as fund raisers for class trips uniforms etc. Here in Utah it's strictly corporate for profit endeavors. The other rediculous thing is the blatant advertising of illegal fireworks in print and radio media from Evanston. Why does Utah allow this type of advertising of contraband while for some assanine law prevents a drinking establishment from legally call itself a bar?

Really? I didn't know that, Grim. I don't blame you for supporting fund raising efforts though.
I agree with you about laws we have here. There seems to be alot of hypocracy in some of them. They need to be more clear and well-stated. For instance, the law states we CANNOT smoke in public buildings; however, businesses are allowed to have "fountains" (fireworks) indoors at a game or at some big name concert events. I am not sure why this is so. It's stupid!
I can see some problems with not allowing these fountain displays at concert events, though. If some big name rock and country stars couldn't have their display, they would not come here.
For the NBA, I think they should make an immediate change to their policies nationwide. They could have a light show. It could be one that needn't be in low light. Or the NBA could allow a DVD in the background of the players as they take the floor. The DVD could show some awesome plays that would both highlight the players ability and excite the crowd. We are a talented bunch here in Utah. Someone could come up with better ways to excite the crowd then shoot off a two fountains while Bear is working his heart out. If you think about it, no one really pays attention to the fountain displays anyway. Bear is on the floor!

The gunpowder in fireworks isn't the same stuff as the tobacco in cigarettes.

But... fireworks attack the respitory system. If you have asthma or a lung ailment at all, you are highly affected by smoke -- no matter what it contains. Fireworks also contain sulpher, which can help to develop asthma and other lung illnesses.
