I'm sure among this bunch we have some WKRP fans.
I was watching an old recording I have this morning, "Les on a Ledge" so it's been on my mind all day.
That's the episode where someone believes Les is gay, so Les threatens to jump off the ninth floor. To break the news to Les that he's been accused, they have Herb tell him. Herb who is completely clueless, stares Les in the face and says, "Les, I don't know how to tell you this, but Jennifer is a guy."
Anyway, you'd have to have seen it to capture the humor.
Okay, any fans?

As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

lol! The turkey episode!
"The turkeys are hitting the ground like bags of wet cement ... oh the humanity!!!" - Les Nessman
They should seriously run that episode every thanksgiving as a marathon like they run the Christmas Story on Christmas Eve.

I'm not so sure a marathon would work. There's only 22 minutes of material and it's in a fairly linear story arc. ACS is much more of a series of short stories you can jump in and out of.
Have you ever just listened to "Turkeys Away" as a radio show? It works very well.

I have friends in this very market who won't watch 'KRP because it's too close to reality. And the average viewer had no clue how close to the mark the producers were with the show. Reruns please! Or a one day marathon - I'd take a day off from work for it.....

I've been having hassles with my landlord today, and WKRP has been a breath of fresh air to help me keep my sanity. I love that ol' tape. I just watched the episiode (half way thru) of Johnny being given a baby by a listener and they have to call family welfare service.
Carlson: "Travis, there's a baby on my desk." Travis: "Uh huh. [To Jennifer] How's she doing?"

Lee, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. There's this new fangled gadget called a VCR.... The problem with the reruns that are floating around nowadays is that they had to cut out all the "real" music that they originally used and substitute in generic stuff. Not quite the same.

Weren't sitcoms of that day all using generic music? I remember Knight Rider (i know, not a sitcom) would have some no-name group performing the currents of the day. Where are you seeing WKRP re-runs?

No, 'KRP has been replaced. Orginally it had some good classic rock in it. They're in tangles with music licencing - hence, why you don't see it on DVD or on re-runs very often.
The show is awesome, even w/o the original music. (Although better with it).

You can cheat. Goto you tube dot com and type WKRP in the search box.

As I understand the legal situation, the problem is with the perceived demand. The entire show was recut with generic music some time ago to get around the copyright problems. The purists hate it though. If you can find it on laserdisc (and if you can play one), I believe that had the original music intact. The syndicated reruns of recent vintage were the recut versions.

I guess I was really out of the loop on the recut music issue. I hadn't heard about that scandal! And yes, I do have a VCR, and I can watch both formats of laserdisc, also video CD, DVD and Beta (but only if I go over to my aunt's house!). For that matter, I can pretty do anything from wire recordings and 16" transcription discs all the way up to the "latest, greatest". Between being a packrat myself and my 16-year-old technophile son, there isn't much I can't somehow watch or listen to. Except maybe Edison wax cylinders but give me time..... ;D
