I have been using Sunrocket VOIP for years but now they have shut there doors and the CEO's ran with money I needed to switch so I was wondering if anyone on the board has tried the Magicjack www.magicjack.com for $40.00 you get a years worth of unlimited local and long distance and no monthly bills if you have please let me know....the only downside I see is you have to leave your computer turned on 24/7 I will give Teleblend a try that's who the company that is handling the Sunrocket shutdown is recommending but I've never heard of them and they are available here in Tahoe unlike Packet 8

Teleblend is really just paying money to have Sunrocket people pointed in their direction. My VoIP is handled by Yahoo. The outbound service is about as cheap as it gets (1c/min anywhere in the US, no monthly charges), but I'm not sure about inbound and you use your computer for that too. I'd recommend you surf around on broadbandreports.com for more info than you can handle. they even had Sunrocket employees posting that the company was about to slip below the waves the Friday before it actually happened.

Skype is fantastic.
Skypein is about $60/year - and gives you free inbound calls from a local number. Skypeout is about $40/year - and gives you unlimited US/Canada anytime calling.
I use it exclusively. Throw in the $30 USB phone from Wal-Mart, and I use my broadband connection as long distance.

I'm a longtime Vonage customer. $15/mo for 500 minutes. With our cellphones, that's plenty of time. No outages, good quality, customer service can be sketchy, but we haven't really needed it much.

I gave this Magicjack device a try . WOW am I happy, the call clarity is fantastic no snap crack or pop very clear and all for under 40 bucks for the device and the first year of service for unlimited local and longdistance I was so impressed I paid the extra 19 dollars for the extra year so 2 years for 60 bucks cool.... I thought about the others but the ones that got burned by Sunrocket on DSLReports is really talking about Magicjack. The downside of this I have to keep my desktop on 24/7.....And the E911 makes my wife a little nervous but all you have to do is register with your local 911 service + we have cell phones so we're covered with the phones......But if you are looking for a cheap phone service look into that magicjack nice................
