The traffic reports discussion reminded me of this. Warning, pet peeve coming. Why didn't the USDOT name the east side belt as I-415 as they originally intended instead of confusing people? You can head west, then south then east all without changing lanes. It's nuts. There's some discussion at www.kurumi.com/roads/3di/ix15.html including a contribution by (I believe) one of out own co-moderators here.

That article definitely needs a touch of updating. At least the mention that 4 lanes were left (as apparently they were needed) and the road was improved (not just left the way it was) to accomodate that.

Okay... you're in Utah and you're actually ****ing about the highway system? I thought we were supposed to deal with it?
It's always been screwed up. I remember when one of the plans was to have it keep going beyond I-80 along the benches, Cross over Sunnyside Ave and dump into 5th South. How screwed up was that idea? Point is, it will always be screwed up, and we have to deal with it because it wouldn't make sense in Utah to have everything make sense.

I recall there being plans for an I-415 that would leave I-215 at around 20th East, an old atlas showed it years ago. Appears to follow the unbuilt Bangerter 'East Loop' at least part of the way.
Bangerter was supposed to continue east past I-15, then turn north at some point, and roughly follow Highland Drive/20th East into I-215. I haven't heard the status of that, whether it was cancelled, awaiting funds, or what.

Okay... you're in Utah and you're actually ****ing about the highway system? I thought we were supposed to deal with it? Heh. Good point. I just don't work that way. Yeah, there are a lot of things that are screwed up but we do have the ability (in theory) to fix them. We should also go back and find the idiot who screwed it up in the first place. I haven't taken 215 in the rebuilt area for a while. Were the lanes made proper width during the rebuild or is it still so narrow that if you drift over 3 inches you hit the car next to you?
