On the KBER one, it would be nice if they actually got the frequency right.

The vintage boom box featured in the KJQ spot is awesome! In the age of the iPod, it's hard to believe "portables" were ever that big.

Should dig it out now that I think of it. It's got AM, FM stereo and TV stereo/SAP. Vintage 1986. I've got an 80's "boat anchor" as well: it's a Montgomery Wards boom box with AM/FM cassette and HUGE round speakers (must be about 5 or 6 inches in diameter). I picked it up on eBay for $8.99 a couple of years ago, and it works perfectly including the cassette deck. Also, it has one of the most sensitive and well shielded AM tuner sections of any radio I've ever owned. My Wards boom box looks almost identical to a similar model produced by Panasonic in the early 80's, and since the tag says it's made in Japan, I'm guessing that Panasonic made the box for "Monkey Wards". On the down side, it takes nine D batteries as power for portable operation. Thank goodness for cheap batteries on eBay! ;D

Batteries on eBay? Aren't used batteries kinda....well....useless?
I'd go with rechargeable lithium ion or something similar myself.

I do use rechargeable ni-cads for most of the consumer electronics items around the house (portable radios, scanners, etc.), but for something that only gets used once in a blue moon like the vintage boombox, the investment in rechargables isn't really justified. Not sure what you mean about buying used batteries on eBay, but all the alkalines I've purchased on line have been new in the package and have worked perfectly.

The comment was meant to be taken tongue in cheek. Ebay is mostly known for selling used old stuff. Used up batteries wouldn't be very useful.
I do wonder where people get large quantities of things like batteries though. I know I wouldn't buy 500 batteries unless I had a use for them. I also know that there is a big problem with counterfeit goods on Ebay, and i wonder if the stuff you got was legit. If it works, I guess it isn't a problem, but having heard the horror stories about counterfeit cell phone batteries (for example) I have to wonder.

I should have realized the comment about used batteries was not meant to be taken seriously. I'm surprised I didn't pick up on your intent with the dry wit that I've been accused of having. I must have posted my reply after a particularly trying night at work. Better luck next time, eh?

I did learn tonight that there used to be an Ebay store in North Davis wher eyou could drop off stuff ot be sold or something. Anybody ever hear of it?
