I am unable to add this to the website at this time but I really want to pass this email sent to me by Dan Jessop of KLO 1430 Radio on to all of you.
Here is the email: When Savage trashed the Smart family for being wimps on his show Thursday it eased the pain of losing the show. He is sure hateful and angry. Are those family values traits....Dan Jessop/KLO. I feel good about our direction. No doubt, Michael is the flavor of the month, year .. whatever. How insensitive. While Elizabeth was missing he once said something like "why to do have to hear about this missing girl in SL everyday. What do I care, I don't even know her." Maybe his stalwart listeners agree with him, but that's not the focus of KLO. Not sour grapes....I'm just glad he was off before his diatribe about the Smarts on Thursday. Pierce of the D-News agreed in his column. Dan Jessop/KLO

Before you read this, I want everyone to know that I'm personally gald she's back, and that I'm only giving an opinion that actually seems to be popping up around the country.
Without defending Savage, take a look at the situation from his vantage point. You get a news story about a girl being kidnaped from her home in the middle of the night. Police have very little to go on, no one can seem to offer an explination, and the parents are automaticly labeled by the NY Times as acting "like another mountain town family in Colorado." With all this in mind from the view of a talk radio host, what would you do?
I don't think there's honestly a single person in SLC, outside of the Smart family, that believed at one point or another that the worst had happened. Not a single person I knew believed that we wouldn't find her body somewhere in the woods behind her home three years later by a lost hiker. If this is just a common thought among just people I know, imagine whats going through the mind of an on-air personality who has to keep current events moving. If you want, can find me one talent in the entire valley who kept a candle in the studio for her everyday? I don't think you can.
Skip forward to this past week. Yeah, its a damn miracle! THESE THINGS NEVER HAPPEN! You don't find an abducted child alive and well, only 10 miles away from her home, 9 months later, in the same city! I was happy for the family. Who the hell wouldn't be? But even I have to say that when local media pushes aside world events, and puts all their focus on one kidnaping story for three days straight, SOMEONE in that mix has to say "okay, that's enough, can we please move along now?"
Every media outlet across the country gave this story a full 5-10 min, and moved on. To quote Adam from Loveline on KBER... "Okay, so she was taken away, she's back now, and she's obviously happy and screwed up at the same time. Let's move on, we got an impending war to freak out about." There are tons of people who also could say that if it weren't for the parent's status int he community, or if it weren't for the fact that they were monmon in an LDS state, and tons of other crap. Quite frankly guys, Utah is boring. And this was the most exciting thing to happen since the debate over Main Street. And even THAT dragged one for more than it should have.
From my understanding, Savage tried to end it through management. That's all I know. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he got the same speech from management that Fox 13 news did, and they were told to "play out all 15 minutes of this story until the stopwatch breaks." The way he chose to do it was unexcusable, but in all retrospect he was the first to try, and he probably won't be the last before the end of the month.
Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
