Once again, CC continues to amaze me of how the dollar can compromise a program From Radio and Records: Report: CC/Chicago Traffic Reports Influenced By Sales The Chicago Sun-Times' Robert Feder wrote yesterday that traffic reports airing on Clear Channel's Chicago stations no longer mention O'Hare International Airport. Instead, the reports use nearby Allstate Arena — a facility for which all the concerts are booked by Clear Channel Entertainment — as a reference point. Feder said the move has "enraged and appalled staffers at all seven Clear Channel stations in Chicago"; the company has a yearlong marketing agreement calling for travel time to be reported "from downtown to the Allstate Arena." Feder added that the deal is the first under CC's "Traffic Designation Rights Program." Contacted by the newspaper, Clear Channel Traffic GSM Barry Butler declined to say how much Allstate Arena was paying for the product placement. In a memo to Clear Channel employees obtained by the Sun-Times, Butler wrote, "Quite honestly, for commuters who take this route, this change makes much more sense, since the significant majority of commuters are not going to and from O'Hare each day — it's from the area where the Allstate Arena is located."
