I drove through St. George - Cedar City, and though B94.9 was pretty good. Imaged pretty well for a smaller market, had a few live DJs and seemed to be done alright.
Yet on message boards and then talking to some people who live down there I always get the message "Oh, B94.9 that lousy station."
What's wrong with St. George's B?

I don't know but did you ask the people down there why they hate it?

They didn't really give a great answer. I mean, it was just sort of a light discussion at a gathering. You aren't going to get an answer like "their imaging was lacking," or "the music selection seemed too Hot AC," from non-radio people. I didn't push the issue. But the answer I got was the gist of "oh, B94.9, that's the loser station. I listen to .... (whatever)." Wasn't a deep discussion.

Tim Nesmith is a weak programmer with little talent and he's older that dirt. He's a chart hog that couldn't pick a hit on his own if God planted the damned thing on his forehead.
Look they've had the same imaging for almost five years or more, they had a hit morning show before Jenny got sick of thier crap and made a move to greener pastures (although working for that weazle Don ****line must suck too) and now they have a great morning show for the market, a decent midday talnet that has ocme along way, but a lousy afternoon talent who can't just say "B" he say something like "Beuawaaaahhh".
Anyway, this is a lame market riddled with lifers that needs cleanout out and the market could be strong if someone revolutionized the imagining here. Devine has always had good imagers but I'm telling ya! Any REAL talent that makes it's way here is surely shuttled out or runs like hell!

although working for that weazle Don ****line must suck tooway here is surely shuttled out or runs like hell! Now, now, Shelline isn't a complete weasel. He just used to have trouble getting to work before the end of the 6am news, Paul Harvey ROTS, his personalized liner and the first two songs of the morning. That is unless he had a weasel transplant.....difficult but not unheard of for a sales type! ;D Friend Lee (he those spots were 30-ish!)

He just used to have trouble getting to work before the end of the 6am news, Paul Harvey ROTS, his personalized liner and the first two songs of the morning. You know, I had to read the part about Paul Harvey three times before I realized it was an abbreviation and not a comment on the broadcasting talents of Mr. Harvey. Thought I was going to have to hit you with the wet noodle.

Hee hee.....save the wet noodle for the serious stuff!! We had two tapes in the control room labelled PHROTS and Emergency ROTS. Visitors to the station must have wondered what we radio people were up to!?!!?

I can say that this market has potential to supply larger markets with great talent. BUT, because of Shaline, Lane, and Nesmith, the talent that is good here stays just that, good. The "powers that be" can't comprehend that the better the talent you have around you, the better that talent makes you look. Just listen to the new morning guy on 94.3 the planet, this dude is a recycle from x96 and needs to blow his nose (like Mr. Lane) and get the hell off the air! But he does make Marty Lane sound more, er, normal. And the consultants that Divine has resorted too at Canyon (due to lack of imagination and innovation) can't hear the stupid music bed that plays throughout the entire local (salt lake city and west valley news) news break. I could rattle on and on about bad programming, but you know they admit defeat when every station here runs "anti-satalite radio" ads every twenty minutes!
As far as the bidding goes, the FCC is understaffed and overworked and can't possibly filter every single bid to make sure market diversity is maintained. There are a couple of private investors working on their own bids that would make the lousy programmers in St. George wake up and actually work.
PS Marty....Carl is funnier than you will ever be, so when he tells a joke, shut up or laugh!!!! Don't comment on it and ruin it! Thanks....
