If anyone was wondering what Simmons owns/runs now... they're finally reworking their Web site to reflect it. www.simmonsmedia.comThe Gov. of Texas (they have a radio station guide for the entire state) doesn't know they're running KRZI, KRZX, and KLRK in Waco yet... Here's a list of areas and formats: SLC — (Web sites available) We know 'em. Or look at www.utradioguide.com or above. Idaho — Idaho Falls: KADQ 94.3 "X94" Alternative KUPI 99.1 FM "KUPI 99" Country, same KNIX jingles as KEGA KUPI 980 AM "Classic Country KUPI AM" classic country, maybe still some MOYL... KQEO 107.1 FM "Arrow 107.1" Classic Hits, yep, just like KRSP Utah— St George: KZHK - the Hawk, classic rock KONY - "Coney country" KZNU - unknown, nostalgia I think? KPLD - unknown... guessing "The Planet" alternative Texas — Austin: KZNX/KWNX-AM ESPN Radio, local morning, mid-day, late afternoon programs (Web site available) Waco: KRZI/KRZX-AM ESPN Radio KLRK-FM A/C Missouri— KSLG-AM Sporting News (possibly mixed w/ ESPN) Radio Wyoming— KDNY 105.3 country KAOX 107.3 rock hybrid KMER AM talk

When did Simmons buy KUPI Idaho Falls? Last I read it was owned by a company out of Idaho. The Simmons web site does list KUPI as one of its own.

*glances at idradnews.conforums.com * Simmons technically doesn't seem to own KADQ, KQEO, or KUPI. They're tied up in a company named "Sand Hill Media" run by the Frandsen family. I'm guessing they lease the stations from them? Sand Hill purchased KUPI AM/FM in November of '03 for an undisclosed amount. The company then promptly turned off KUPI's AM stereo, much to enthusiasts such as MichaelJWyo's chagrin.

Simmons does NOT LMA or own controling interest in the Idaho Falls based 3-FM, 1AM of Sand Hill Media. Sand Hill's majority owner is the Frandsen family from Logan BUT Simmons DOES have a minority interest. This was the arrangement because at the time of Frandsen's purchase, Simmons owned a full compliment of stations in Idaho Falls/Pocatello which they later sold to Bonneville. East Idaho listeners can remember that NONE of Frandsen's formats competed directly with Simmons formats . It was not until the Bonneville purchase that KUPI-FM now has a country competitor from Bonneville. Hope that clears up any confusion?

Well that's a little clearer now. At least now I know who to accuse of being an AM STEREO-hater. KUPI sounded AWESOME for many many years in AM Stereo up until the point that "Sand Hill" bought it. Put on the classic country format and shut off the stereo. Take a trip up to Evanston and see how AWESOME classic country sounds in stereo. ALL those old songs have major separation. Those of you that listen to KBNZ know what I'm talking about. And the rumour about coverage? Well gee, can I hear KUPI any better now that they've turned off the stereo? Nope.
At least Southeast Idaho still has 2 AM STEREO survivors. Those would be 1290 KOUU (country) and 1490 KRTK (Christian). They both sound great!
