From All Access:
CLEAR CHANNEL sells its ABERDEEN, SD cluster to ABERDEEN RADIO RANCH, owned by TODD and ROB INGSTAD (sons of longtime radio operator BOB INGSTAD). The ABERDEEN NEWS reports that the sale could become final early next week. The cluster includes Sports KSDN-A (THE FAN), Talk KKAA-A, AC KBFO (THE POINT), Classic Rock KSDN-F, and Oldies KQAA (KOOL 95). ABERDEEN RADIO RANCH already owns Country simulcast KGIM-A-KQKD-A, Country KGIM (PHEASANT COUNTRY 103.7), and Hot AC KNBZ (Z-97).
You think we could see the beginning of CC selling off some of it's assets? Is the industry going to redirect into a less corporate phase? Probably not, but I thought I'd post it.

Isn't Aberdeen, SD where Clear Channel f-ed up big time with the disasters? There wasn't anyone manning their stations and the EAS didn't signal? ... maybe that has something to do with it...

You think we could see the beginning of CC selling off some of it's assets? If so, only very small markets. A station here and there, possibly. Wholesale bailing on the radio biz? Not in the near future. I don't know how much of a percentage of the profits the stations bring, but I'd wager it's not insignificant. The only market I can even find in South Dakota at all is Rapid City, and that's #267. The population is about 6.5% of the Salt Lake City market. Tiny.

The other shoe falls in ABERDEEN, SD, where the INGSTAD sons' ABERDEEN RADIO RANCH, which announced the purchase of the five-station CLEAR CHANNEL cluster earlier this week, spins off Oldies KQAA (KOOL 95) to EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION and Talk KKAA-A and Country KQKD-A to FAMILY STATIONS. The sales to the religious broadcasters keep the INGSTADS within FCC ownership limits in the market. ------------------------------------------- So KQAA FM will become K-Love... not sure who "Family Stations" is.

Family Stations are the people who own 91.3 & 102.3 in Tooele, KUFR in Salt Lake and 91.9 Ogden,

Family Stations is only on two frequencies in the Northern Utah area. KUFR is 91.7 in Salt Lake, and 91.9 in Ogden is fed off satellite from KEAR in San Francisco since the 91.7 signal can't get to Ogden. KUFR used to be on 102.3 until the Randolph Transmitter came on with their Salt Lake Booster. There is an application for 91.3 to replace that, but the FCC isn't acting very quickly in this matter.

I thought I read somewhere around here that 102.3 in Tooele was still on. Checking closer, it's a non-directional from Farnsworth, so I would say that's unlikely. Apologies all.

Aberdeen is a very small market. The main town is probably not much larger than present-day Bountiful. There are a number of towns in the region, but the population within the Grade-A contours of most of these is probably under 75,000.
In contrast, Fargo is not much smaller than Provo and Orem without the rest of Utah County. It's no wonder that CC is selling.
The Ingstads already have a history of selling off to religious broadcasters. I think they owned one near Fargo that they sold and it went to K-Love as well.

One big difference is that people in the rest of the world have actually heard of Fargo. It wouldn't surprise me if most people outside of Utah had never heard of any city other than Salt Lake.
