Flipping around today, I noticed that KBNZ is not broadcasting a stereo pilot. Are they trying to rimshot into Salt Lake? It helps, though most radios will blend to mono (as someone already pointed out in the stereo separation thread) if the signal is too weak. Then again, given the source material (older stuff) does it really matter if it's stereo? Very odd. That makes two full power stations that I know of in the area who don't broadcast stereo. (The other is KYFO-FM at 95.5)

I wish this station was available in the SLC area. It would be a nice change to hear classic country on the FM dial

I noticed that too last week that they were in mono. I don't know that it has anything to do with a "better signal" or anything like that. Probably just a technical problem or someone accidentally hitting the "mono" switch on the Orban. The only bad thing about this is that on most processing when you put it in MONO, it's feeding only one channel into both. So MONO=LEFT ONLY. makes things sound kinda funky especially with Classic Country where a LOT of the old songs have MARVELOUS separation with vocals in one side and instruments in others and things like that. I know this only because here in Evanston on KEVA we run the same classic country satellite network "Jones Radio's Classic Hit Country" that KBNZ runs. It's a nice format and YES, stereo DOES INDEED make a difference. That's why I love our AM STEREO here. The classic country sounds great! And about 90% of the content is stereo. There is once in a while an old old song from the 50s that'll be mono, but most of it is stereo. I've spoken with Lew Jones personally....he's the head of that network and he's told me he really goes out of the way to make sure he's got the highest quality and stereo versions when available. He said he's even taken some from his personal vinyl collection. Sorry for being long-winded. I really don't think it's on purpose or that it's that they're trying to be a rimshot and think they'll get in better if they're mono. I think it's an accident or an actual technical problem where they lost a channel in the air chain or something. That was a week ago, I haven't been down there since last Tuesday so I don't know if they're back in stereo or not. Thinking about contacting their engineer. I think it's the same guy that takes care of KNYN up here since we LMA that from Kent Frandsen in Logan. So it's probably the same engineer. Will keep an ear to the radio

Michael J wins the "Sleuth the Mono Signal" contest! According to a Reliable Source (who also reads these pages), the mode switch on the processing was bumped into mono. As of earlier today, the Tremonton FM should once again be heard in beauteous stereo.
Should is the operative word, results from your 19kHz demultiplexer may vary! ;D

P.S.:.....and don't even get me started on why it wasn't noticed sooner......!!!

As of a few hours ago, the stereo pilot was on, at least. The song at the time appeared to be mono. How's that for justice. *wink*

Thank you...thank you vurry much!
Only guessed it because it's happened many times here with our Orban Optimod processor. Little toggle switch right on the front that's REALLY easy to bump and pop it down, which in turn puts it in MONO.
Will be good to hear the Classic Country in FM Sturrio again tomorrow when I'm in Utah.
