Aside from being NBC and CBS, it's pretty clear that staking a claim in the downtown atmosphere has done both companies well. The idea of being in the heart of the city you broadcast in seems to make people love you more (or at least that's what I read). Not to mention in this day and age of MTV's studio in Times Square, it's obvious that a presence does more for you than just saying you're there. So my question for the day is this: What station do you recommend should take a trip downtown and stake a claim? Give a reason too -- blank votes tend to come from passers by who have no valued opinion. Show us that you're an informed voter.

I think that KBYU should consider a move of some of their operations to downtown SLC -- to the Triad Center to share space and production facilities with KSL. Within a few years, BYU plans to have about five thousand students at its new Triad Center campus. This move of some operations to Triad would enable the school to offer some hands on broadcasting classes there to its students (as well as easily facilitate internships with KSL and the other BIRG stations). Furthermore, KBYU needs extra space. They already use space off campus (in Provo's Ironton industrial area) for post production of series programing and some other things.

Is there anything local produced at KPNZ at all? If there is, I don't know of it. Getting some local stuff (regardless of where it's actually produced) would be a great start.

Getting some local stuff (regardless of where it's actually produced) would be a great start. a) occasional live remotes [they have a microwave vehicle] b) Ultimate Combat Experience is played on Sundays at 8 pm, I don't know if it's actually produced in house. -------------------------------------------------- So what ever happened to ClearChannel buying Z24 anyway?

UCE is produced by an outside source. To my knowledge all the station has to do with the show anymore is air it. I believe they were also the smart people who told them to put the disclaimer up at the opening. One broken neck from a stupid imitator, and both would be sued faster than any the WWE has ever gotten. And they'd pay more since it is real.
As for the CC buyout, it's apparently still ont he table, but the situation over there is sticky. It's currently owned by two people, one who wants to sell it off and turn it into a Utah version of QVC, the other wants to pump money into it and make more local programming -- like the rumored sketch comedy and news shows that keep falling through. But neither wants to sell to the other, which has left much of the staff In-Limbo. In fact, I believe three or four people have recently left due to payroll issues, but don't quote me on that.

(the local programming, not an in-limbo staff)

Yeah, promises have been coming out of that place for 3 years now with very little change. And I did some checking, they lost one voice talent in August I know of due to pay. Not sure where he is now. I'll keep digging.
