Since I voted other, here's what I'd like to see: 1964-~1970 oldies. Oldies 94.1 is too broad for me, though lately KXOL seems to be doing a pretty good job.
Just my 2 cents.

Hey man, don't give Cobain crap. Just because the idoits at MTV gave him more glory than anyone else who deserved it (Sonic Youth) is no excuse to hate him. And if you're gonna hate him, hate him for the fall of the genre.
Think of it this way. No matter what form of rock you have, whether it be Punk, New Wave, Grunge, Nu-Metal, etc... there are always two or three bands who get blamed for the fallout. If you're gonna hate Cobain, think of his death as the kick to the junk of Grunge.
But he ain't alone! While other bands did their damage (like Hole covering Fleetwood Mac or Pearl Jam rejecting MTV), I fully blame the break up of Soundgarden as the final death blow. Even with bands like Silverchair and the Foo Fighters stiill playing their hearts out, Grunge is dead and it sure as hell won't be back.
And yeah, that pains me to say it. I'm 21. I grew up on it too. Everytime I listen to a rock station, I have to suffer through a lot of music that is just garbage garage mixed with a punk sound and a pop appeal. I swear if I hear "The Anthem" or another Avril Lavine song played on a rock station again, I'll have an aneurysm from the thought of someone actually considering that good rock.
I now know how Ringo Starr feels everyday. I'm surprised there aren't more artists like him! But maybe that's a good thing. The last thing I'd want to see is Krist Novoseilc picking up the basist from White Zombie, the guitarist from Alice In Chanis, the drummer from Smashing Pumpkins, and playing the living hell oput of "Teen Spirit" until my ears bleed every two years on a US tour.
Ahhhh, glad I got that out. Anyone want to hear my thoughts on the pathetic 4th rebirth of Punk?

No, please, one rant per topic, I still say a true triple A would be the best for this area not an alternative station but a KBCO (Denver) style station, and one thinks we have alot of rock stations go to Denver they have more than we do!

Wow, that had some feeling. No one's to blame for the fall of grunge, it's just a natural evolution in music, like punk "dying" the first time, or the fall of the Hairbands. And grunge is not dead it lives on in most notably Audioslave, it's just not at the top of the heap as it once was. Music goes in cycles, sometimes rock is king sometimes, pop is king, that's just how it goes.

Okay, glad to get a reaction from people. Any other votes or opinions on the poll? A true Triple A or KWSA type format would be very interesting. On the note about AAA stations... if you look at Media Base (avaliable for free from R&R or AllAccess), you can see that both KJQ and the End have fairly mainstream AAA playlists when it comes to top current songs (but not the rest of their formats, obviously).

Question for you then Sam, what would you consider a good AAA station? And I dont mean "well if i took KJQ music with The End Dj's..." None of that. Just like the question I asked earlier... what would you do with the station if you were told to make a new one.

Create something like KBCO (I listened to it a little online) or KRVB in Boise, ID. I may not fit their target demo. but I still really like a broad variety of music that's not "rock" yet isn't "soft rock" from the 70s to the present. For example, take the 80s library from KENZ or KJQN and throw in some 70s/60s folk I guess it was called... and some less played current/semi-modern artists like Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt, etc. along with popular Triple A standards like Matchbox twenty, Norah Jones, John Mayer, etc. I'd be happy. I guess "The Mountain" here in SLC used to sound like this, but I wasn't around to hear that incarnation of 105.7 FM.

Thanks Sam thats the point I've been trying to make, Utah has not had a true triple a since KUMT (Mountain 105.7) and they were pretty good. KBCO Denver, KFOG S.F. are examples of real triple a, the stations here that call themslves triple a have missed the mark, but that's Utah radio for ya!!! ;D

Notice The Mountain (a true AAA) isn't around any more? Maybe AAA can't make it.
Hey, I was just beginning to like Jammin' Oldies when they put Dianna 107.9 on. Some good stations just don't make it. (Don't pull a good enough share)

You may be right when it comes to the mountain, honestly I can't remember what rating they pulled when the plug was pulled, but, I think in the case of 107.9 they let that go too soon 107.9 pulled a 1.0 which isn't bad considering the signal quality at the time, they didn't have a decent signal into Utah County at the time or the booster in the western half of the Salt Lake valley, although I think the decision payed off now that they are beating KZHT
