My understanding of the deal was Tribune being brought in so that CBS Broadcasting didn't have to deal with stations owned by corporate entities like Clear Channel. Total ownership and say over what the station does, whether it's O&O or not. I seriously think in the months to come, it will be somewhat of an issue.
Fox News Radio, ABC, and now a CBS/WB network all under the same CC banner in one state? You know someone's going to say something eventually. Especially when these kinds of combinations has been brought up to CC before in both San Antonio and Los Angeles.

Tribune came in from the WB side of the equation. Time Warner gave Tribune a partial stake in the network in order to gain the clearances they needed in major markets. The old United Chris Craft group got the same deal from Paramount. (That's where the (U)nited in UPN came from.)

Just to update as of Friday, neither station knows where the new network will go. Which shuts down the idea that WB30 is set in stone. But also doesn't confirm whether or not Z24 will get it either, if at all.

There are other markets with two. One of the larger ones I have heard about is Phoenix.
There, the UPN affiliate (KUTP 45) apparently will become an independent, and the WB affiliate, (KASW 61) will take the CW.
Within a day or two KUTP was trying to distance itself from the network. During a Suns game, they referred to themselves as 'Channel 45' instead of 'UPN 45' as they had done previously. This was one of the old United Television/Chris Craft stations if my memory is correct.

KUTP is a Fox owned UPN station. They've done the same thing all over the country. Personally I think it's stupid, since they SHOULD be branding themselves with what they're going to be selling at least through May sweeps.

A little birdie told me that Randy Rigby over at KJZZ is campaigning LIKE CRAZY to get the new combo-network.. AND that if that happens, CC is considering backing out of the KUWB deal.. which according to the same birdie possible at this point... I guess they're only in a LMA at this point... which I really don't know one way or the other about. AND, whether or not the KJZZ folks back in the day were racist or not.. I remember hearing the reps complain that they couldn't sell ANY of the UPN programming because NOBODY was watching it then... The sales staff was ecstatic back then when they went with the movie package that gave them oddles of airtime to sell, and actually did SUBSTANTIALLY better than the UPN does in this market THEN or NOW....

I don't know... don't you think Larry would have a problem with all that "black programming"? Not to mention some of those shows have open and closet homosexuals as characters. If he had his way with the censoring, about the only thing he'd air would be wrestling and 5 minutes of Veronica Mars. (including 2 minutes of credits).

I think it very much depends on what the schedule for CW ends up looking like. I would guess that most of the programming is going to be from the WB side to start with, since those are more successful. Just a guess though.

Fox has duopolies in a number of markets that are either WB or UPN stations... so this upn-WB merge affects them so Fox is starting a "Fox-Two" network... WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE IN SLC for one of the ones losing out on a network. Best Bets are That CC will keep The WB-UPN thing at KUWB, from what I hear their LMA/Buy agreement is subject to them being able to keep the WB-UPN combo net... even though I have heard Jane Doe's "randy rigby wants it" rumor too. So Fox Two likely will go to KPNZ... who's edge over KJZZ is just they don't have the JAZZ conflicts...
What do you think??

This new Fox offering sounds a lot more like a big syndication package than an actual network. I'm a little skeptical that any standout programming will be on it.

We have a client in Kansas City for an Urban Radio station... KC is 12.5 percent African-American.... the UPN station there is a FACTOR... 90% of what we do for them is UPN and BET.... BUT in SLC with 1% AA.... There's not a lot of what you'd call standout program for the market on UPN... while "Everybody Hates Chris" I feel would have a pretty universal appeal... who knows that it's on... by the way check it out Thursday evenings... it's Chris Rock narrating his childhoon escapades...
But like I say... for SLC it wouldn't take much from FOX2 to "standout" compared to the UPN fare....
