WITH ALL THE STATIONS IN THE SALT LAKE AREA, WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE DO A HISPANIC FM MUSIC FORMAT. ALSO THERE IS ONE OTHER FORMAT THAT WOULD PULL A 4-SHARE IN THIS MARKET.
DO YOU KNOW WHICH FORMAT?

Maybe because they don't feel the small 6.8 percentage of SLC would care to listen to it?

A four-share?
Well, it's not Jammin' Oldies.
It's not rock.
It's not CHR/Rythmic.
Definately not CHR/Pop, we have 2-3.
Not Hot AC.
Not AC, although it's strong in this market.
Not smooth jazz.
FM Classical or Standards maybe?

Smooth Jazz, because KBZN did not pull more than a 3 in the Spring book.
The problem here is it's not truly smooth jazz, it's a hybrid of soft-AZ and smooth jazz. If they did more vocals off smooth jazz albums, and a few more upbeat smooth jazz instrumentals than they do now, and cut the soft-AC crossovers, they would probalby do much better. That is the reason KYOT in Phoenix pulled a 5 in that market, which has alot of hispanic FM stations, including several Entravision affiliates They also have R&B adult via a rimshotter and it's doing reasonably well considering..

Phoenix ain't Salt Lake. The culture is different. Both Arizona and Florida have a large number of retirees, and I believe those are the only two states that still have true easy listening (Mantovani, 101 Strings etc.) stations. No coincidence.

Yes, that's true. There's KAHM Prescott, but it only hits a very small part of the Phoenix area, so it's not really even a rimshotter, and they don't have any translators except for a fill-in within Prescott itself as the town is right against a mountain.
There are maybe only one or two 'adult standards' stations left, and the ratings are quite low on them now, and that format is about to die down there as well.
The big gainers are adult R&B, Spanish, and rhythmic oldies, and so maybe smooth jazz is riding the coat-tails of this. I've heard that hispanics really go for the R&B stations as well. That's been mentioned in the national broadcast press, and on other sites.

The Breeze used to be be smooth jazz. However, I think they are being more successful now being more AC. Remember, there are more stations now, especially since KOSY signed on, then there were back in '95.
