The switch has happened. It's midnight and KALL moves to 700.
Right in the middle of a sentence.
Some call-in show was on 910, and 700 had dead air. 910 went dead about a minute to midnight. 700 came on about 30 seconds later, still in the middle of the call. Going into the break, there was a short promo saying to watch for the new Kall 700 soon. Um, it just happened guys. Pay attention.
910 ran dead air for some time, but is now on with RD at 12:10
Overall, a horrible transition. Could have been handled much better. Even a simple announcement that "Hey we're moving now. Spin the dial." would have worked.
Oh well.
I don't see anything about change of call signs at the FCC, so I assume that 910 is still officially KALL and 700 is KWLW. We'll see.

I didn't get a chance to hear the switch since I can't pick up 700 or 910 up here in Evanston at night. Flipped it on first thing this morning when I got in the car to come to work, though. Sadly, I got my hopes up. I was hoping for AM Stereo to be turned back on at 910. No go as far as I can tell. I GUESS I could be wrong. There was a touch of fading going on around 910.....I can check it for sure next week when I'm in Utah. But as far as I can see it's pure glorious mono. I have to admit the sound IS indeed a bit cleaner on 910 than 860 is. Seems like the modulation is lower on 910. Which is fine. It sounds a lot cleaner than 860 does. 860 has always sounded like they're pushing the limit of 133% modulation...maybe over that. 860 sounds loud and blurty, whereas 910 is clean. Also sounds like only one channel is getting over to the transmitter. I had actually wondered this about 860 for a long time. I guess you could tell for sure if they play a song like "I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown (vocal in one channel, music in the other). There's an oldies station in Rock Springs that's been that way for more than 10 years! I think the engineer JUST fixed it a few months ago....only because I caught him when he was there. He wanted me to listen and tell him whether it was fixed or not. In any case, yeah...it's clean on 910 but sounds a little funky....I really think there's a channel missing. I guess if they were in stereo we'd know for sure. Wouldn't surprise me if they CAN'T go stereo because ClearChannel took out the dual STL setup when they moved KALL from the building on South Temple over to Decker Lake Dr. Hell, that's one less dish up on the roof. Sad sad sad. I may see if I can contact someone from ABC/Disney and see if they have any info or if they care. I would also be interested to know what the top of the hour sounds like on 860/910. Hell, maybe temporarily for a day or two, they've just got a radio down at the KALL transmitter tunded to 860 (although that's REALLY hard to do when you're right at the transmitter) or an STL or marti coming straight from the 860 studios for the moment....then once they get a "studio" (computer) built for 910 then they'll swap it over and that's when 860 will change. Man I wish I knew someone over there at Citadel or CC. I guess I can still keep my fingers crossed for stereo. I think if I contact anyone the only answer I'll probably get is the same that's going around everywhere. "Well ya know, we're not going to waste money with C-quam when DIGITAL AM is just around the corner and there's stations already using it." Okay...great guys. Let's put a system on that NOBODY has radios to receive. Let's spend THOUSANDS of dollars on a system that no one can pick up, will trash the sound, and actually sound WORSE, when you already HAVE the equipment to do C-quam AM Stereo and there are literally THOUSANDS (just in the Salt Lake Metro....there's probably 10,000 AM STEREO Capable radios) of radios out there. AND they're still being manufactured. Anyone got a new Ford Focus? If you do, more than likely it's got AM Stereo capability. Whew......guess I got up on the wrong side of the bed, eh? Back to work.....playing MUSIC on my C-Quam AM STEREO station (KEVA Country 1240) hearing AM STEREO on my monitor here in the studio and hearing wonderful-sounding audio! Michael J

I must say I am dissappointed by the sign on. Let's say it's not something to save for forever, but I'm still glad I taped anyway.
Around 11:58 KWLW 700 cut out, and joined Simulcasting KALL 910 about 11:59:45. They BOTH IDed as "KALL Salt Lake City," at which point KALL 700 went to ABC news, and 910 cut dark. It then went to Radio Disney about 12:02.
Nothing about "This is the new KALL 700," or "Radio Disney 910 AM!"
This morning as far as I can tell (at 7:00 AM) Radio Disney 910 didn't ID at all. So still no idea on the calls.

The FCC database might just not have updated until sometime overnight. I pulled up a search for KALL at about 12:15 last night and it returned 910. The same search now pulls 700. Speaking of which, is 910 actually IDing yet? They have other liners on the automation system, but I haven't heard anything but blank music bed where the legal should be yet. The other automation seems to be working fine, including local spots.

Yeah, you would think they could have done something to honor the... what, like 50 years on 910?

If you listen to both 860 and 910 at once one says: "860 KBEE Salt Lake City. Radio Disney, your music, your way!"
At 910: "Radio Disney, your music, your way."
I don't think they are IDing, as of last night.
