Well these polls sometimes go south but I am interested to see how many of the board users have Sat. Radio. I know alot of people that get Sat Radio for the House/Techno stations and a True classic 80's Alternative now that KJQ died. Myself I listen to get my Phil Hendrie fix.

I bought the XM Delphi Roady II at Costco. I like all the news and talk stations, especially BBC and Fox News. I like to hear music without commercials too. It's hard to listen to music on terrestrial radio now - can't handle the endless commercials.

This is a JVC KT-SR1000. A friend gave it to me after he upgraded. It's sat in my house, nothing happened to it, but then after trying to set it up this past week... I found out it wasn't putting out audio.
The audio output level was turned up all the way, but no sound will come out. The channels updated okay from the satellite, and I've put it on the weather/emergency channel... tried a variety of outputs (cassette adapter, audio plug in into home stereo, headphones in the "audio out" jack)... to no luck.
Hope this helps!

I chose Sirius because they have WSM and the Grand Ol Opery on Saturday nights. Live radio like it should be! Even with the commercials, it's fun to listen to.

With alot of people going sat. radio, is it possible that regular (free) radio may go obsolete?
Personally, I don't get why you would wanna pay for radio when you can get it free, but then I really haven't checked into it to see what it offers over what free radio does.

With alot of people going sat. radio, is it possible that regular (free) radio may go obsolete? Not a chance. Satellite has a long way to go before it's a serious (or Sirius) compeditor to terrestrial radio. Right now both services combined are something under 1% of the total radio listening audience, and that's including all available channels of both satellite services vs. all of the free-to-air stations. Also keep in mind that at least 25% of television viewers don't subscribe to either cable or satellite TV. I don't see satellite radio getting even that high.

Personally, I don't get why you would wanna pay for radio when you can get it free, but then I really haven't checked into it to see what it offers over what free radio does. Radio is NOT free, it never has been, listening to salesmen bash you over the head for as long as 7 minutes is not free, I don't know anyone who'll live forever, thus my time is precious to me and worth something, even non-com radio isn't free they ask for donations, radio is not more free than that common offer that tells you you'll get something for free if you PAY for shipping and handleing, uh, free-pay....don't work, I pay for radio by listening to commercials, and later buying an advertised item, one way or another it's not free...never has been, honestly what in this world is free? you may not give your money directly but you'll give something Coming down off my soapbox now..............

I get most of the XM channels thru DirecTV now...and am not impressed. The music is a bit eclectic at times, and I think it's tough to have (for example) 4 Alternative channels without some spillover in music. I think it's a bit redundant, and not something I'd pay for if I had to.
BTW, for the "next generation of radio" the imaging and presentation on 99% of the XM channels is weak and boring. There's no real compelling content at all, and most of the jocks sound like cast-offs from better stations.
However, I am a guy, and more channels is all I want...whether they're good or not. Gimme my 500 channels! (even though I'll only listen to 2 or 3 regularly)

I have XM. But I am thinking about changing to Serious. I like the fact that Serious has more DJs. One more thing. Why is it that the 80’s channels is better at night then during the day? I here more songs I haven’t heard in a long time at night. I am talking about around 11:00 at night. During the day it sounds like any other 80’s channel on the radio. I have also noticed the same thing for the 90’s channel. However, I do like channel 47 on XM. They play a wide verity. I just XM had more DJs. I also want to know are the DJs on Serious live or voice tracked? I will talk to you later.

Why is it that the 80’s channels is better at night then during the day? The concept is called dayparting. There are different audiences at different times of day. For example, an A/C station might run softer music during the day when they're on in offices for background music, then run a little harder-edge music at night when people at home are listening and want something with more of a beat. There's more at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dayparting

XM used to be owned partly by Clear Channel, the mentallity is still there, leave us not forget XM also was charging subscrber for commercials on the music channels up until recently, Sirius NEVER has, they also have many of the great legendary jocks there Sirius is the better product in my opinion
