Bonneville is using those electronic billboards you see like by the freeway that change the ads every so often, but in a new way believed to be the first of its kind. They are using them to promote KSWD 100.3 Los Angeles, and the billboards show the title and artist of the current song playing, and the billboard itself looks like an mp3 player. Here's the story. www.firstin.com/radiorecordings002.htm

James, I didn't see the reference in that link. I would be very interested in this new strategy!

Turns out this sports broadcast blogger who spotted this does not maintain an archive. It's the only place I saw the story.
Again, they have a custom-made billboard cut to shape to look like an mp3 player, presumably an iPod, but it could be anything, even a generic 'player' cutout, and in the 'display' is the title and artist, apparently, of the current song being played.
As it is, KSWD is getting rave reviews for their playlist and other things too. Looks like Bonneville has hit on a winner with this in the LA area.

That's so great! I wonder if it's a Clear Channel Billboard??

I saw KGB in San Diego in the late 90's with "Now Playing" feature on a billboard. It was a standard billboard with a LED marquee attached.
