We have a family camping trip planned at the Grand Canyon. I have never been there or been near it. I imagine there are many many campgrounds all over down there. I'd like your help. Anyone who's familiar with the area and camping (in a tent), please respond here with your advice and some suggestions.
Thank you!

Depending where your are traveling from the North Rim is the cooler spot this time of year. There are campgrounds near the N Rim with amenities but they are usually reserved way ahead. Check the National Park Web site for availability. Further North away from the actual canyon in the Kaibab Forest there are campgrounds with nothing more than a parking spot in the forest. It depends how rough you are planning to camp. Get some maps and do some Goggling you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Thanks, everyone, looks like we picked a decent spot on the south rim. Yes, rsay777, the north rim was way booked. It's shaded and should afford some decent camping. We're not hard-core campers by any means (huge queen-size air mattress). I will update you all on our experiences when we get back in early August.
