Okay gang....what do you make of this? Check it out. We have a translator at 93.5. It's a translator for KUWR in Laramie....Wyoming Public Radio. Yet it's not listed ANYWHERE at the FCC. I know it's licensed to Evanston....it used to be in the FCC's database. But it's not anymore. Now of course, I wouldn't put it past the FCC for their online database to be incorrect. But here's the catch. There's now an application in the database for a new translator at 93.7. Now WHY would the FCC approve a translator to be placed at 93.7 if there's already one on the air at 93.5 I'm really beginning to think that someone at UW fell down on their work and maybe forgot to re-up the translator's license?? So they let it expire and technically it's not supposed to be on the air?? Another wierd oddity.....the new translator app at 93.7....shows it's owned by Jerry Lundquist. Well, Jerry owns KAOX-FM in Kemmerer and KDWY-FM in Diamondville. I worked for KAOX for a while and the signal just doesn't get into Evanston very well, but they've always wanted to be a competitor in Evanston. So I'm pretty sure Jerry's putting this translator on so he can re-broadcast KAOX here. I thought a radio station owner could not OWN a translator. Usually it's the community that owns the translator. I dunno....maybe that's changed. Just smells really fishy to me. I may have to email the KUWR folks in Laramie and try to figure out what the hell is going on with the 93.5 and if it is legal, then why would the FCC approve a translator right next door at 93.7.
