Someone tell me that Jon Du Pre is not a permanent addition to Good Morning Utah. He was awful on Fox News and he was awful from what I saw of him this morning. The banter between him and Angie L****n was some of the most awkward I've ever seen!
And looks like Mike McKay has been moved to the "breaking news" desk, which wasn't even covering the "breaking" news story of the morning. So confused. I think ABC4 just really wants to continue to be the lowest rated station around...

Sorry, Mon, the Swap Shock is for real. If you missed Jon's debut as Breaking Newsguy you spared yourself the worst of it. He's actually better at the desk than he was on the floor. He really needs to control those arms, though. He gestures like he's in a pulpit or running for office. "Somebody" there busted up a good morning team. What did they really save or achieve by showing one of their best anchors the door (terminating Erika)? They have been playing with the formula trying to gain points in a winless environment. They've sacrificed a happy well meshed trio for what they hope to be a few fractions of a percentage point, and are trying to appeal to the younger audience with a guy who is already old enough to be just another 'old dude' to that target viewer base anyways. Can't somebody just say "Tom, Matt, put Jon in for Ross and bring Erika back ?" If only like worked like that. ..
and what's up with the oversized imposing logo on the new weather system ? "Somebody" seems to have forgotten where the weather systems come in from and has managed to obscure the radar for any incoming from the north and west. Between the new 4-Warn at the top and station banner near the bottom there's not a lot of screen real estate left in the middle.

Whoever told ABC4 that a Fox News reject with no personality would get them more of the younger demographic than what they had before needs to be fired. The most important aspect of a morning news show is chemistry, and it was blatantly obvious to me that Jon Du Pre has chemistry with nobody. He can't even get Angie L****n to flirt with him, and she seems to do that with all the guys...haha. Frankly, I thought Kerry Kinsey was better during the brief period he was on GMU, and he wasn't very good at all. With the Erika/Mike/Todd trio, it seemed like they were at least doing something halfway right with one of their programs.
And I think every time 4 changes their weather graphics, they get worse. The new graphics package makes me feeling like I'm watching some no-budget station in Podunk, TX. Seriously cheap looking and cheesy.
I predict one of these days they'll scrap all of their news programs and replace them with extra hours of Good Things Utah. And they might get better ratings that way...

I guess they're still fiddling with it, newx? Saw Mike McKay anchoring again when I left work this morning. Didn't stick around long enough to see if Du Pre was on in any capacity.

Has there ever been a time when ABC4 wasn't a gutter dweller in this market? I've been here for 12 years and it's always been awful (even in the Ruth Todd days rating weren't all that great). When you have a certain demographic that will always tune in to the "Approved" station that doesn't leave a whole lot of the pie for the others. ABC4 seems to be a perrenial 4th in market, behind even Fox. The odd thing is that ABC4 seems to get a lot of local emmies for some of their stories. I dig Chris Vanocur too but not enough to deal with the rest of the newscast.

Has there ever been a time when ABC4 wasn't a gutter dweller in this market? Channel 4 (KCPX/NBC) was the news leader until 1965 when Welti and James were hired away from channel 4 and paired with KSL's new hire, Dick Nourse on channel 5.

Ya, we've got Mike back for a couple of days. Enjoy it while it lasts again today we are looking at "Idaho" - or at least imagining what it looks like - under the 4-WARN logo ...

Isn't it funny how KTVX was a strong #2 back in the days of Randall Carlisle and Kimberly Perkins? Right on the heels of KSL... But how accurate do you think the ratings are? I know that ABC4 hasn't always been the first, but somehow I think ABC4 could have had a decent rating with Ruth Todd and Randall Carlisle anchoring....don't you? I know a lot of viewers moved with her to Channel 4...but there is no doubt in my mind now that ABC4 is in dead last. They just need to revamp the whole news team, all departments, website and graphics...and most importantly, get a new set! Hire back those that were let go and get ride of those that are fake (Marti Skold)....

You have got to be kidding me, newx! I swear, they need to put me in charge of that morning show. Even *I* could do a better job than them figuring out what people actually want.
