Terry and Susan followed "Mike McKay" out the door... Mike was even removed from the website earlier this week, while the Woods remain listed as of this ( Tuesday) morning.

Wow.
So with Clayton gone as well, are they just going to get rid of the weekend program entirely? I guess that would make sense, but you never know with KTVX.
And I guess "Mike" got the ax on Monday? Because I saw him anchoring Friday. That really is a shame. That Mike, Erika, Todd team was the one thing that station had going for it.

KTVX should just get rid of its newscasts entirely and throw on syndicated programming instead. It would probably get better ratings and be a lot cheaper. The newscasts would not be missed since nobody is watching them anyway.

Or they could just replace their newscasts with episodes of Good Things Utah. Probably would get better ratings...

KTVX is just shooting themselves in the foot. First, to "release" several people just days before Christmas is just MEAN. And now they have "personalities" with no personality! And please, get rid of that chat fest with the women in the morning. It is NOT adding anything to your station!
Good luck with trying to rebuild your station, your news team and your credibility. You are on the wrong track!!

I am confused. The article says that they've been married for two years. Yet I remember when Susan worked at KSL five years ago, she was known as Susan Wood. Was she a Wood before she married Terry?

I for one will miss Terry and Susan.. I thought they made a good team. But.. I will no longer watch chan 4 news. (not that I like anything else much better).. They let go to many good people. If they got rid of that Good Day Utah, they might have been able to keep the news people. that show is a waste of air time. Even if I accidently stumble across it.. I never stay long. Stupid move if you ask me.

Any "old" or "ex" anchors out there still living in the valley not on television anymore?

Lets face it...KTVX SUCKS!!! It has always been at the bottom of the pack in the ratings, and always will be. They should just turn it off. KSL and KUTV are great - and I think have gotten even better now that they are doing news in HD. FOX is pretty good! I can't wait for them to start doing their news in HD too.

I think KTVX made their first mistake nearly 2 years ago when they let Dan Pope go. Then not renewing Ruth Todd and demoting Terry Wood to weekends....just when Channel 4 was starting to lift up from the ratings basement, they flopped and fell down again. Just think 10 years ago, Channel 4 was a strong #2 behind KSL but that went out the door I think when Kimberly Perkins retired.
Here's what I think should be done: Let Ross Becker and Marti Skold go, along with all the KTVX Management; re-hire all those that were let go (and even let those go who replaced the terminated or re-assign them) and add more newscasts, change the news set and redesign the graphics and hire some retirees from KSL's management and KTVX could have a killer news team!
But gee, somebody pinch me..... Ohhh how easy it is to dream....
I miss the Ruth Todd, Dick Nourse, Mark Eubank and Craig Bolerjack team

I'm trying to understand exactly WHY one station gets better ratings than the other. Is it a. The talent b. The set/graphics/packaging c. The network affiliation d. The heritage
I like to watch an anchor or reporter that doesn't look like they're scripted. Jon Du Pre on KTVX is the weekday-morning co anchor, and now also holds down the weekend newscasts. Yes, he's got experience, but looks at the prompter like he's never seen one before. Ross Becker at least looks like he's telling you ABOUT the news, rather than just telling you the news. I was sad to see Mike McKay leave, management was on the right track with GMU at one point, but gave up too quickly.
I don't think the set or graphics of a newscast translates to ratings, but I do think that a "new" set and graphics would help to shed a negative persona. KTVX could benefit from a complete overhaul, but I don't think that would happen any time soon. They bought that anchor desk used from KTLA.
KSL has a legacy in this State, but so does KTVX. At one point they were a ratings leader.
In conclusion: I think the turnover at KTVX is hurting the organization more than anything else. I also think this is only the beginning as far as changes go. That being said, they need to do some damage control, so...
...HERE'S MY 2cents... 1. Invest in good real estate and try to get street-side studios for easy promotion. "Live, from the KTVX studios in Downtown Salt Lake City, this is...." 2. More gimmicks, but not too many. "4-Warn" weather is good, but what about "traffic and weather on the 4's" for GMU? Contact-4 Investigations, etc. 3. Marketing. Billboards, bus-wraps. If Ross Becker and Barb Smith are your main anchors, and you're sticking with them, tell us to watch! "The team to trust...Becker and Smith, tonight at 10. 4. No more "ABC 4 News". Too much baggage with that name. Time for something new.

KDYL 4?
You won't see any changes under High Plains. They are, in my humble opinion, a dirtbag leech company that buys businesses, "cuts the fat," and re-sells them for a profit. KUTV's owners are nearly as bad, and FOX 13's new owners will be.
Everyone except KSL is toast.
Why is KSL number one? It's because they make $19 million a year and re-invest nearly ALL OF IT back into their product! If any of the other stations did they same, they would climb. Instead they'd rather suck all the capital out they can and send it out of state.
It's a good short-run business model, but atrocious in the long run, and IMHO grounds for the FCC deleting their license and reassigning it to someone else.
But since when did TV and radio stations actually have to serve their communities?
For me it's KSL 5 Eyewitness News HD or nothin'. Maybe KUTV, for now.
