It's obvious from what KTVX is doing these past few years that their priorities is not ratings or producing a good newscast, but to get something out there as cheaply as possible.
I mean, seriously, anybody they had who was remotely talented or engaging is gone, replaced by someone who does it half as well for half the price. And the set? When I watch Channel 4, I feel like I'm watching the newscast for some station in Podunk, TX. The graphics? Same thing. I mean, they've changed their weather graphics package a couple of times in the past few years, and each time it looks worse!
People are first attracted to what they see. If they're flipping through the channels and see a program that looks cheap, they're going to assume it's cheap and go onto something that looks like it's better quality, like Channel 2. I mean, at least it looks like they spent more than five bucks on their set.
So once you get the channel flippers to pay attention, you have to have quality talent to keep them around. Dan Pope, Ruth Todd, Randall Carlisle, Mike McKay, and Erika Edberg...all quality and now have all been replaced by cheaper imitations. Plus, people want people they can recognize. Shuffling things around every few months is bogus. For example, they had a great thing on GMU but just didn't give it enough time. Are people really going to want to watch if the people they like and are familiar with are tossed out every few months and replaced with less talented people? Same thing with the evening news. And they really just need to get rid of the weekend newscast now that they've fired all the staff.
And you'd think I'd have something better to do on NYE...
