The atmosphere must have been pretty active tonight. I caught two stations I'm nearly positive were DX. One was on 101.5 all in French. I don't speak French, so I couldn't figure out what they (man and woman) were talking about. The other came in on 106.1 riding over the top of KOTB, doing a Hot AC/CHR kinda thing as "Kicks 106".

One time the station received a post card from a fellow in Ohio who claimed to have picked up KVFM (now KVFX) during one of the brief stints when the McMartin made it up to full power. The postmark on the card was from the morning following his DX report so I could only assume it was heard during one of the rarely reported case of FM skip.

Sadly, it was gone again tonight. Never did get an ID.

This kind of atmospheric skip is strongest this time of year, with a secondary peak in about November.
One of the most spectacular incidents of this that I have encountered was in July 1982 when I got ALL the Houston Texas FMs for a period of about 4 hours with no breaks!! I was in a small town, Payson, Arizona, that day.
It came clear and in stereo on all the radios I tried that day. It lasted from about 10am to about 230pm that day.
That same summer, I had days where I received selected stations from Memphis TN, Alabama (largely the public radio network), Wisconsin, and Nebraska.
Up here in Provo, I got a West Virginia classical FM (noncommercial) several times in about a month's period about three years back. Got some skip from somebody last week broadcasting on 89.5 while passing through American Fork--they were airing Jammin' Oldies but I was never able to identify the station.

My best was back in NJ about 10-12 years ago. The local station on 96.3 (WQXR running classical) was off the air early monday morning and I got WNTX from Cape Cod clear as a bell. Have an aircheck somewhere.

This is sort of off topic, but for those who enjoy VHF low band DX, the California Highway Patrol was booming in on both the 39 & 42 Mhz police bands last week. I've also heard stations in Missouri and Kansas on VHF low band recently. Fun stuff to listen to when nothing's happening in Ogden.
