So here's something I've been wanting to bring up. NBC has been heavily promoting Jay Leno and his show. Of course, with all the hype just about everyone tuned in on the first show. By the end of the week, his ratings were way down! For example, Jay's debut had over 18,000 viewers. By Thursdays show, he had lost 10,000 of them!
So how do you think this will affect KSL for ratings? For years, NBC had strong lead-ins to KSL's 10pm news, but now with Jay Leno in the 9 o'clock spot, and with few people watching, do you think KSL will drop to #2 in the Ratings?? It is going to be interesting to see...
And in a related note, Jay Leno, while hosting the Tonght Show, had huge ratings over David Letterman and since Conan took over, Letterman has beat him a few times over these last 2 weeks. Which leads me to believe that either KUTV 2 will take over #1 at 10 and maybe KTVX 4 will even move up.... who knows...it's going to be interesting to see, ya know?
Is there a way to find out the local ratings before the November Sweeps?

I thought the move was doomed to fail--but only because people who watch tv at 9 pm, or whatever timeslot they put Jay Leno into, already have favorite tv shows that they watch during that primetime period. I didn't think that people would want to give up their favorite primetime show to watch Jay everynight. Watching Jay Leno is fun and I like him so much more than Letterman..but if I had a show that I love to watch at the same time that Leno was on, I would be watching the favorite show that I have been faithfully watching before Leno got moved.
IMO BAD, BAD mistake on NBC's part...and poor Jay, it's not his fault.
The other night, I watched Letterman because I wanted to see what Zachary Levi, who plays "Chuck" is like. I hear really great things about Zach, personally--so I tuned in to check him out.
I don't find David Letterman funny anymore at all. His monologue was not funny. He talked about exploding underpants, (in reference to the Nigerian kid who tried to blow up a plane on Christmas). But Letterman's jokes were not funny or even upsetting. I thought they were all boring... He has lost the touch that he had in the late 80's and I would like to see him hang it up...
Leno is funny, but has been put in a tough position and needs to move to another network altogether, I think.
Conan is no longer funny to me either and I think NBC made a huge mistake putting him in Leno's previous timeslot
Craig Ferguson is funny and a pleasure to watch.

This will be fun to see play out this week. Sometimes I think I fear change and I've been accustomed to Letterman and Leno for so long, I'm not sure I ever gave Conan a chance. I've seen clips of his show and he is very funny, of course the clips are highlights and showcase some of his best work. NBC will pay for making these changes. Conan has an early termination clause and will get paid if NBC takes away Tonight.
Someone will probably end up at another network and the battle for late night begins again. May the best man win.

I do think Conan has been funny lately... He has been back to his old self during his jokes about this current situation. He seemed to loose his humor in the last year and now it seems to have caught back up with him again. That's good, because Conan was hilarious in his old timeslot! He use to joke about how no one was watching because it was too early in the AM and then he'd go to the airport or somewhere and see if people knew who he was... No one knew who he was! Now that's funny!
Ferguson is crazier than a lune!!! He is funny and knows how to adlib in an emergency situation--like when the lights go out and he has a show to do in total darkness!
I guess the irony might be that Ferguson said "Letterman is my boss..." I didn't know that, but it must be true because Letterman said the same thing in another interview. He is Craig Ferguson's boss...Yikes!
