deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,505039671,00.html What is this whine that Lynn Arave constantly speaks of? I have only heard it on my cheapest radios and only at night. Also, SLRadio Broadcasters needs to update their listings! Not really a current source of info, IMO.

maybe he mens WINE ;D, well maybe I shoudn't go there, it's not uncommon to pick up a "whine" on AM radio this is usually from not tuning in a station correctly or being close to "items" prone to cause interference, which on the lower frequencies such as the AM broadcast band is most anything you plug in, my Grandfathers radio in Mapleton picked up a "whine" on 570 back when it was KLUB playing nostalgia music "KLUB 57" (anyone else remember that station?) I never heard this "whine" on any of my radios, sometimes it can be the radio itself causeing it, by it's internal osilator, anyway maybe that clears things up???

The "whine" Lynn was talking about is unique to the 910 Frequency. It has to do with it being a multiple of 455kHz, which is the IF frequency of most radios. If the IF or the main channel tuning is slightly off, a beat note will result. This is mainly a problem on older analog tuned radios (witch a dial, not a readout). You seldom find it on newer radios that are digitally tuned and phase locked. Maybe we should all pitch in and buy Lynn a new radio, lol!
