The FCC today released an order allowing nearly all stations broadcasting HD Radio to get an almost immediate power increase. The details, including effective dates, etc., are included. hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-10-208A1.pdfThis is for the entire nation, not just SLC, but yet we have about ten stations using HD Radio at present, most with HD2's also.

The last I heard, the Farnsworth Peak FM Combiner is maxed out on power levels. It would take new combiner equipment to do this....not sure if the antennas can take it either.

It's interesting that that would be the case for Farnsworth, as all the stations on that use less power than a full C running at 100kw on a 2000' stick such as the senior Road tower in Houston.
Most are running around 20kw to 30kw, I think KBYU has the most right now at 32kw, they had more when they were on the other mountain before everyone moved to Farnsworth since it was a little lower. They run with less power to compensate for the HAAT being higher than 2000'.
The power levels will be 6 percent of their current ERP, up from one percent. So if you are running 30kw, you will still only be be running about 1.5kw off that transmitter.
It could well be that everyone went cheap when they went in on buying that combiner, so they may have to replace that anyway, if we knew more about it we would know for sure whether it could take the digital power increase outlined as the analog ERP will remain the same.

Everyone is running between 8-9 kw into the Combiner, I think 104.3 is about 8.2kw at 100%
