I think the LDS church is on to a good idea. However, I am irritated with The Mormon Channel. If they don’t change things, it will be a flop just like The LDS Radio Network was. First off, The Mormon Channel is to repetitive. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the same thing over and over again. The Mormon Channel needs to be run line most christians talk radio stations. The Mormon channel needs to put on talk shows where people call in and talk about things relating to the LDS faith. For example, it would be good if they had a talk show host from LDS social services come on and do a three hour talk show of advisory calls from an LDS prospective. Then they could have talk shows where people call in and the host discuss things like church history or current events with an LDS prospective. Also, most christen talk stations have people such as Chuck Swindoll Charles Stanley or other pastors on in the evening. There is no reason why The Mormon Channel can’t have talks from people like John Bytheway, Brad Wilcocs, and others in the evenings. But this would have to be an ongoing thing. For example, John Bytheway would have to be on at 7:00 followed by Brad Wilcox at 7:30 or something like that. If the Mormon channel doesn’t do things like this, it is destined to fail.

This has actually done very well outside the metro, as they report over 55,000 downloads of the iPhone app in a four month period, in 55 countries, and Rob Boshard told Steven Kapp Perry on the 'Cricket and Seagull Fireside Chat' podcast that if he had the number of session starts while on 'terrrestrial' radio (get the joke), that he would be considered to be doing very well.
I have no figures, but one must also remember that when programming this, they have to take into account that the listener could be halfway around the world, not just in the Salt Lake market.
Unfortunately, we don't have PPM breakouts to show how the HD2/3 stations are affecting the ratings, or what their cumes were, so we can't tell what the audience is inside the metro either, Mormon Channel is on KSL-FM HD2.

Well James, half the people around the world don’t know who Bob Lonsberry is. But yet, WHAm and KNRS have aps you can down load to your I phone. I also think that people are going to get tired of the repetivitiveness on The Mormon Channel. I don’t listen to it that much because it is just that. It is very repetitive. If they ran themselves like any other Christian talk station, it would be a much better channel. I also think most members in America, the metro, and other places know who John Bytheway and others are. If they don’t, they will soon find out by listening to the station won’t they? One thing I do like about The Mormon Channel is they do broadcast the CES firesides live. I’ll bet half the people around the world don’t know who is speaking half of the time either. Half the members of the church don’t know who the speaker of the CES fireside is half of the time. My point is if they put a lot of different people on who are from an LDS prospective, and ran both new and old talks from people like John Bytheway, Don Black, Brad Willcocs, and many others, it would be a much better station.

The Mormon Channel needs to be run like most Christian talk radio stations. Hey, Lumpy, insert the word OTHER in there, between "most" and "Christian," like this: "The Mormon Channel needs to be run like most OTHER Christian talk radio stations."
