KOGN (1490 AM) is now back on the air with a Spanish language format; the switch happened over the Labor Day weekend. The transition leading up to the "official" format change on Monday was really weird: a simulcast of WFAN (660 AM) in New York, followed by about 12-14 hours of dead air. The station is ID'ing as "KOGN, Ogden/Salt Lake City Utah," which is stretching the truth a bit considering the range of the 1,000 watt station. The format flip even made Lynn Arave's column this week: www.deseretnews.com/article/700063882/SL-radio-scene-continues-to-change.htmlAs of today, there's nothing on the FCC site about transfer of control or a change of ownership, but since the station is broadcasting a legal ID on the hour and airing ads for "Tien Computers" (?), it looks like the station is under new ownership. Also, for those who are keeping track, KOGN is AM Spanish language format station #6 in the SLC/Ogden area: 730, 1490, 1550, 1600, 1640, and 1660. Can you say market saturation?
