A blogger in Dallas is reporting the departure of one of their big talk hosts, as a result of KRLD 1080 going all-news. www.dfw.com/2010/09/24/339603/krld-am-going-all-news.htmlThe rub here is is that he said he is going to be coming to Salt Lake. One reason is his ailing mother, but is that all there is to it? After all, Bonneville for a time owned several major stations in the DFW metro, and so some working for them would know some of the people there, even though the stations they had were sold some time ago as it is.

After listening to the clip of his last show, I think that IS all there is to it -- his ailing mother and his autistic sister live in SLC and he feels that it is his duty to be there to help out.
I look forward to hearing his show. It sounds like he is in the mold of Doug Wright -- conservative but willing to look at all sides of an issue.

For the past few nights, Jay has been doing a show from 10pm to midnight. I've caught it a few times. And to be honest... I think it sounded horrible. Ok, maybe not horrible. Boring.
I'm sure they're getting some formatics figured out for the new show - but if this is what KSL is offering instead of Sean Hannity, look for KNRS to be the big winner here.

Turns out that he is LDS. I'd be surprised if the new host turned out to be anything other than LDS. That particular niche seems to be the market that KSL Radio (and the re-organized Deseret News) are trying to capture. It will be interesting to see how much of an audience they retain over the long term. The demographics of this market seem to show a stagnant, or declining, LDS population, and fewer people seem to be listening to radio now in general. If KSL identifies themselves at The Mormon Radio Station, they're limiting themselves to that one stagnant segment of a declining audience.

I'm just surprised nothing has been said so far to advertise for this new show. If they want people to listen, shouldn't they tell them what's coming up? Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

KLS is also going to do their news starting at 3:00. They are saying they are doing nnews earlyer then ever. That is a lie. Remember when they first started airing Sean Hannity, they only had Hannity on for only 2 hours. Then their news started at 3:00. I wonder why they aren't airing Jay Micfarlind for 4 hours. BTW, I do not like the way KSL does their afternoon news. You hear the news for an hour, you heard the rest of the 3 or now 4 hours.

I have a terrific idea, if they want to gain a new audience, as well as retain their old audience, a brilliant concept, an one I'm sure they haven't even thought of yet is to?? HIRE SOMEONE ENTERTAINING THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THEY PICKED HIM UP AT WWW.MEDIOCRE, GENERIC AND BLAND DJ'S AND TALK SHOW HOSTS.COM??? what a concept. you know? IMO of course.
