OK day one is now about wrapped for Jay Mcfarland on KSL.
Sounds good, but not the best they could have gotten, has a sidekick, but she's not much better.
Looks like for cume they'll lose the afternoon, because they are going for younger audiences, sort of a cross between typical talk-show hosts and Nightside. In Phoenix, they tried a 'Nightside' type show and it loses every book to crosstown KFYI. The other downer there is no afternoon news on KTAR-FM.
New website associated with this as well. kslbrowser.com and I hope I got that right.
I understand talk generally skews older in audiences, so I don't see how this is going to help.
What I think they should have done is built a WTOP-style news programming setup, that would at least give people a reason to stay with the station more time, maybe TSL might not have been better but people would come back almost all the time to catch late breaking stories, other news related things, and of course with the metro area population hitting 2 million or more now, the traffic reports more frequently.

This is probably the biggest mistake KSL has made since hiring Kevin LaRue. If they are receiving revelation, it's apparent that God doesn't know how to run a Radio Station.

One issue I have with Jay Mcfarland nis that his show is only 2 hours. I have observed radio long enough to know that when a radio show is 2 hours, generaly that means tnhey are just using filler time untill the next event. It would be nice if Jay mcfarland had more substence to his show. Instead of talking about usless things like should we loan family members money. Personaly, I am not sure he will fit tthe format. But then agaion, I could be wrong. Michael Castner did very well in the ratings. However, keep in mind that his show was longer. As much as I am not a Sean Hannity fan, I would reather listen to him as apose to Jay Mcfarland. But it is realy to early for me to make a final judgement call on Jay Mcfarland. I only listened to him for about 15 minutes today. What do you all think?

I do wonder something though. Sence Jay Mcfarland's show s supose to be hip, do you think we could pull off an all hip radio station and have talk shows all day long like his show and gear it to a younger Audience? This is what I think many of the public radio stations should do sense they have the money to do this type of thing. What do you all think?

****umption is that Jay only wanted a two hour show because he wants to spend as much time as possible with his mother and sister.

Haven't checked out the show yet, but if he's tackling topics like "should I lend money to family," he'll fit right in with the rest of KSL's riveting lineup.
I wonder what his take on illegal immigration is. KSL has of late taken an unabashed stand on this issue. Will McFarland tow the line? If he wants to keep his job, I suppose he will. If he wants to keep listeners, he might play devil's advocate.

Did find the webpage for the show, it is mostly empty, but look at the crap news stories in the sidebar. I don't think this show as it stands now will do much for the ratings. Won't know really until the December release of the PPMs for November www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=12595942&nid=894 I have also found a Tribune article that says Jay is actually one of two hosts for 'The Browser' which is the official name of the show. Has more details, some of which are different from the details given as to why Hannity was dumped that we heard in July. www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/burger/50411595-53/ksl-mcfarland-browser-web.html.csp
